There’s a popular misconception about clone golf clubs. Many see these as being cheap knock-offs of the big brands like Callaway and Nike and not up to the standards of the big manufacturers. That might be true in some cases, but a set of quality clone golf clubs will play every bit as good as those expensive OEM’s you see in the pro shops. Read on to find out why.

For a start, the main manufacturers of clone golf clubs are fully fledged golf companies. Their own research and development departments produce club designs that are manufactured with the exact same materials the big OEM’s use. These clubs incorporate the same design principles such as club volume, moment of inertia and cavity backs, to name just a few.

The rules of golf lay down strict limits when it comes to club design. Club heads have to conform to these limits, otherwise they are deemed non-conforming and cannot be used in competition play. That’s not limited to the pro tours either. Playing a non-conforming driver in your monthly medal may well see you being disqualified.

The top manufacturers of clone golf clubs will submit their clubs to the game’s governing bodies for approval (USPGA in the USA, R&A in Europe) same as all the big OEM’s. This is an expensive undertaking and nobody making cheap knock-offs would go to the expense and effort of submitting their clubs, only to see them rejected.

Take a driver for example. The maximum volume allowed under the rules of golf is 460 cc for the club to be conforming. It’s not enough for a manufacturer to say their drivers are no bigger than 460 cc. The game’s governing bodies have to say they aren’t. If they are under the limit, they go on the Conforming Driver lists. If they fail the test, they are listed on the Non-Conforming Driver lists.

Quick note here. Some manufacturers of cheap knock-offs proudly proclaim their drivers are conforming and point to the fact that these clubs are nowhere to be found on the non-conforming lists. That simply means they haven’t been submitted for testing. If a club conforms, it’s on the conforming list. If a club isn’t on the non-conforming list, it isn’t necessarily conforming.

Creating conforming clubs takes a lot of attention and a lot of manufacturing skill. Get the build process wrong by a fraction of a percent and the clubs could well end up being non-conforming. Volume isn’t the only parameter to take into consideration. With limits on club-face rebound for example (the Coefficient of Restitution) being effected by even the smallest variation in face thickness, quality control becomes vitally important.

Clone golf clubs from respected manufacturers conform to the rules of golf and will make a much smaller dent in your wallet. Manufactured from the same materials as the big OEM’s and with the same (or better) shafts, these are high quality clubs that will make the game that much more enjoyable. As a bonus, many of the top line manufacturers offer custom build options on their clubs.

What you get is a set of high quality, conforming, custom built golf clubs that will play ever bit as good, if not better, than a set of expensive off-the-rack OEM’s. And all that without the price tags.

Not a bad deal.

A well built set of clone golf clubs really can do wonders for your game. If you want to use these for more than just casual play though, you need to make sure these are manufactured to conform to the rules of golf. For conforming clubs, make sure to check our custom golf clubs. Low price – high quality and more options than you can shake a stick at.

I have often been asked what I think the most important part of the setup is when you're getting ready to drive a golf ball. I dont know if there is one answer to that question.

I have often been asked what I think the most important part of the setup is when you’re getting ready to drive a golf ball. I don’t know if there is one answer to that question.

The way I answer it is based on what I’ve observed over the past 30 years of teaching.

After you’ve addressed the golf ball, and this is not an easy thing to see, you might have to have someone watch. Or, I’ll tell you how to check for yourself.

After you’ve addressed the golf ball and you’re all ready to hit, I would say that 90% of the people that struggle with the driver have their shoulders aimed way off to the left.

Now, why? It’s pretty simple. Oh, I don’t know, 80% of the golfing public has a driver golf slice. So, if you slice the golf ball, you’re going to try to aim off to the side, so when it recovers and comes back around it’s in play.

Now, unfortunately, for those of you that have a driver golf slice, simply by squaring your shoulders up, that isn’t going to take away the slice. But it’s going to encourage the golf club to swing more from inside than from outside, and it will help it a lot.

You may need a grip change. But there’s no question about it, the most important part of the setup for the driver has to be the shoulders.

Make sure they’re aimed parallel to your feet, knees and hips going left of the target.

Now, if you’re driving the golf ball poorly and not very consistent, let me give you these two golf swing instruction pearls. They go hand in hand.

And I promise you this will help you find out if your problem with your driver is in the backswing.

For you to become a really good driver of the golf ball and consistent, the shoulders have to turn. The only way they can turn in the backswing is if you have your chin up and not down.

Most mistakes that I’ve seen with amateur golfers in their difficulties of driving the golf ball is their posture.

Their head is too far down. The only thing your shoulders can do is go up in the air. You won’t have the ability to swing the golf club around you. You won’t have the chance of your shoulders turning.

So, the best golf swing instruction I can give you is, the next time out, after you’ve addressed the golf ball, gone through your routine and you’re almost ready to swing the golf club back, simply lift your chin up in the air an inch or two. And don’t forget that your shoulder should turn in the backswing.

If you have your chin up, the shoulder can turn around it. From there, you can really let it fly in the downswing.

Again, chin up, not down, promotes the shoulders turning in the backswing.

Try that the next time out and I promise you it’ll help you.

Thanks.

Different things happen every time you step out onto the golf course. That’s why sometimes free golf lessons can be just what every golfer needs to get them back on track. My own point of view is that the ‘unknown’ aspect of golf is what makes golf the most interesting sport to play. Every time I play at my local golf course it is a new experience, sometimes good and sometimes bad.

Because of the enormous variety of shots that golf seems to bring upon you, it’s important to make the most of your practice time. Ongoing practice on a weekly basis is the best way to give yourself the opportunity to play around with those unusual spots your golf ball may end up in. With golf practice sometimes the unorthodox or out of the ordinary methods can do wonders to improve your golf game.

What Does Unorthodox Practice Mean?

If you look at the golf driving range the majority of golfers spend all their time trying to hit the golf ball as far as possible with their drivers. Very few spend any time at all on the short part of the game. Which ever way you look at it, spending too much time on either part of the game will not benefit you or allow you the opportunity to practice those tricky or indifferent shots we all seem to face on the golf course.

Free Golf Lessons That Work – Close Your Eyes Or Just Look Away

This is an example of an unconventional practice shot. This is one of the better free golf lessons that can help you keep your head down and your eyes over the golf ball when you find yourself in a tricky spot on the golf course.

Step 1

Begin by taking your stance to the left side of the golf ball for right handers. Next you need to face away from the target line. This will feel strange at first but stick with it and trust yourself.

Step 2

Hold the golf club whichever you choose with it facing downwards from your most dominant hand. The blade or face of the golf club should be pointing towards the ground and right at your feet.

Step 3

Put the blade or face of the golf club behind the golf ball and turn your head slightly back so you can get a good aim of your shot.

Step 4

Pull the golf club upwards while still moving it forward. Then swing the golf club down along your target line for as long as possible and ensure you follow through.

Step 5

It will be difficult but try to not turn around and see where the golf ball has gone. Really focus on your follow through and hitting the golf ball back in play towards the green. This is one of many free golf lessons that you can use to really improve your golf game.

Troy Vayanos has helped hundreds of golfers play their best golf using simple, easy to follow techniques.

One in ten people is left-handed. While that isn’t an overwhelming majority, it’s nothing to be sneezed at either. Despite the fact that there are many millions of left-handed golfers around the world, there are still very few great golf equipment companies specializing in left-handed golf.

Life isn’t made for left-handed people in general. Especially left golfers! Left-handed golfers will face a variety of challenges when learning and playing the game of golf, especially if you aren’t using the right equipment. Luckily, many golf brands are starting to catch on to the need for quality ladies left-handed golf accessories and equipment.

If you are looking for left-handed golf equipment and accessories for women, read on for some useful tips on what to look for, and where to look for it.

Ladies left-handed golf equipment:

There is a lot of variation in the way that left-handed golf players play golf. Some left-handed golfers play with right-handed clubs, with their right hands. Others play left-handed with right-handed clubs, and the rest play with whatever feels most comfortable, whatever that may be. Whether this is a result of different child raising beliefs in older generations, or a sensible way of making golf easier for themselves, it’s worth taking a few swings on a borrowed club before you order a special set of left-handed clubs.

Obviously, the most important piece of golfing equipment is your golf clubs. You will need to buy a special lefty set of clubs if you are going to be playing golf. Most of the top golf club brands have a range of left-handed golf clubs that are specially designed to give lefties the best possible golfing experience. It’s not uncommon in sports for special bats and clubs to be made for lefties, and golf is no exception. You will need drivers, wedges and an assortment of bits and pieces, many of which can be left-handed.

Where to find ladies left-handed golf equipment:

Thanks to the Internet, finding great left-handed products is easy! Order inexpensive left-handed golf equipment, or splurge on some better quality brand name designs. Callaway are known for their exceptional ladies left-handed golf clubs and accessories. Visit the retailers direct, and look for sales or discounts. A great set of clubs is worth a bit of effort, and shopping around online can hardly be considered much effort anyway! Although, for the best results you are going to need to visit a sporting goods store and try out the clubs for yourself. Once you have an idea of the kinds of brands that you prefer, you can start shopping around for better deals.

There are some great left-handed kids golf sets available as well, worth every penny! Nurture a passion for golf at a young age and give your child confidence for life.

Thanks to innovations in designs, being left-handed need not be a handicap anymore. See how easy it is to begin playing golf, whatever your needs may be.

Don't throw away your money on golf clubs unless you read this guide. This is your first stop before you make the plunge of buying golf clubs.

Folks, don’t get tied up into the hype of golf club manufacturers. If you are not careful, you could be throwing your hard earned money down the drain. This is your guide you need to read before buying golf clubs.

What do these manufacturers promise? They promise you that their clubs will fix your golf game, improve your swing, straighten your shots, etc, etc. Sounds great, so you go shell out major bucks for these clubs. You go to the golf course with these clubs, and guess what happens? Well, if you are one of those where your equipment was the problem, then you could see some improvement, if you have the right clubs.

What if you are one of those who has problems not related to your golf equipment? You expected the club to fix your nasty hook or whatever. But, the problem with the nasty hook could be your fault, not the golf club’s fault. What if you have been swinging incorrectly, but you never really fixed your problem. Maybe, you never knew you had a problem with your golf swing? Well, with your new golf clubs, you still may see that you are still hitting far left or right of your desired target, for example. You just spent potentially hundreds of dollars buying these golf clubs, and you still have the same problem. The reality may be that the clubs you already had were perfectly fine. You could have saved your money and sought out golf swing instructional video or something. Well, thanks to this guide, you will be better equipped with knowledge.

Am I saying that better golf clubs can’t improve your game? No, don’t get the wrong idea of this guide. Good golf clubs can improve your game, so there is nothing wrong with buying high quality golf clubs. But, one of the main points is that you need to learn to play the game of golf well, first and foremost. If you are swinging a $20 club wrong, and you put a $200 club in your hands and you are still swinging wrong, there is a good chance you will still end up with the same problems. Some golf clubs can help out, but you still should be swinging correctly, in order to really improve the shot. Or else, you may only see minimal improvement, or none at all. Learning to play well will also help you to decide what golf clubs are better for you. Perhaps the best way to start playing golf is with some used clubs or a cheap set. That way you can develop your swing and find out which clubs are best for you. Make sure you go to a professional or knowledgeable golfer who can help guide you to the right clubs. Give the clubs a swing and see if they “feel” good to you.

Before I conclude this guide to buying golf clubs, I will tell you a story that will hopefully help make a point. I have a golf buddy of mine who has been playing with a cheap $100 set of clubs, this excludes his driver and one of his woods (I think). In the main, he has a dirt cheap set of clubs. This guy is continually beating me and others on the golf course. What does this tell us? It tells us, for one thing, he knows how to swing the golf club, and knows how to play golf. It tells us the golf clubs are performing fine. And it tells us, you don’t need to spend tons of money on golf clubs to play a great game of golf. Sure, again, some clubs might help, and be better for him, but as you can see, it’s not all about the equipment. Also note that “better” does not have to be more expensive. Knowing how to swing the club and how to play the game effectively is of the utmost importance.

Troy was introduced to his first game of golf by some of his long time friends. Well, at first, of course, the game was awkward and frustrating. But, the more games he played, the more he developed a love for the game. Now, he likes to help others in their pursuit of a “great” golf game. Troy has put together a website to do just that. There you can get many other free golf swing tips, and golf tips, just like the one above, just by signing up.

When it comes to finding junior golf equipment available, there are no shortages of places that an individual can look to in order to find the items that they need. No matter where the individual lives, either in a big city or a remote town, there are forever resources accessible to them in order to enable them to find and acquire the junior golf equipment that they hope. Finding junior golf equipment obtainable is just as challenging as the individual makes it. With the right researching functions, a personal can drastically slow down on the period of time and energy that they put into finding the junior golf equipment to buy that they would most like to purchase.

First, it will be critical to determine what form of equipment is required. Does the tools need to have been manufactured by a specific company or will any type do? Once an individual figures out what they are seeking, they are in a position to then determine which kind of condition they would like the item to be in. Typically this signifies that the personal will either be seeking junior golf equipment to buy in new condition or in like new condition. Equipment that is in used, but in like new condition, can be advantageous because it is less expensive to purchase in most situations. New condition items are sometimes beneficial to people that know what they want and are committed to the game or sport.

After these things are settled on upon, a person can decide where they would love to purchase their equipment from. There are many places that will provide these sorts of items for youths that are interested. Junior golf equipment for sale can readily be located at the town sporting goods outlet. If somebody cannot find what they want at a physical shop, they can invariably become the Web. This is a great resource for some people that are searching for new or used items, since there are online auctions and online outlets that will provide both conditions for equipment. In numerous case, the junior golf equipment available online will in addition be at a lower cost because of the competition that is bred between the Internet community stores. Another beneficial places to look would be in the newspaper and in other magazines or newsletters that post ads. Individuals can be in a position to find new items in this way, but more likely than not the junior golf equipment available that they find will be made use of in condition.

Again, this may be good to the individual if they’re hoping to limit the amount of cash that they are intending to spend on their golf equipment. The good thing about obtaining equipment from the sporting goods outlet or from a newspaper classified ad section, which is printed locally, is that the individual will have the opportunity to interact with the equipment in a hands-on forum, which will give them the accurate information as to the problem of the item and the way it grips. Occasionally this can be awkward with items that are being bought on the Internet.

You've seen the ads. You've noticed the incredible prices. And you've undoubtedly wondered, "Are they as good as the brand names?

You’ve seen the ads. You’ve noticed the incredible prices. And you’ve undoubtedly wondered, “Are they as good as the brand names?” We’re talking about golf club clones, of course, essentially imitations of brand name equipment that you can buy from various sources for dirt cheap. Well, cheap as far as brand new golf equipment go.

But are they as good?

Bottom Line

For those of you in a rush (who isn’t?), here are my conclusions:

Irons. I sell lots of used golf equipment on eBay. And you can bet I try and play just about everything of interest that passes through my office. So, the prudent question would be: What would someone like me – who has access to and pretty much can put anything I want into play – have in my golf bag? Answer: The same set of inexpensive graphite-shafted clone irons I picked up from Pinemeadow Golf a few years back. I kid you not.

Drivers & Fairway Woods. Although no longer in my bag, my overall experience with the graphite-shafted driver I picked up from Pinemeadow is okay; performance and feel were both satisfactory. The corresponding fairway woods (3-Wood and 5-Wood), both also with graphite shafts, performed just as well, but I personally didn’t like the way they felt. This is probably based mainly on sound – I prefer the distinct metallic sound and resulting feel produced by the Callaway Steelheads and Orlimar Trimetals that you’ll usually find in my bag, a sound that I guess I now expect to hear every time I swing a wood – and the Pinemeadows didn’t have the sound I wanted.

But to be fair, not many do. Again, they performed as expected. In fact, I once placed third in a tournament armed with nothing more than these Pinemeadow fairways as my woods! Stupid me, I forgot my driver at home and ended up using the 3-Wood as my driver. Now that I think about it, that was probably a blessing, actually, considering how inconsistently wild I can get with the driver (my fault, not the club’s). The point is, the fairway woods did their job, and still can – I’ve kept the pair around as backup or loaner clubs.

I think it’s important to note that these comments are based on “older” product. The latest woods releases from Pinemeadow and others may very well be better than what I’ve experienced – the current overwhelmingly positive customer feedback and comments on their site seem to indicate that – but I just haven’t personally experienced them firsthand.

Hybrids. I can’t comment much about clone hybrids either – or even brand name ones for that matter. I just haven’t used them yet. My bag’s equipped with a 7-Wood in place of the more typical 3-Iron, and this configuration has served me quite well, enough at least to help me not bother with hybrids just yet. In all probability I’ll be jumping on the hybrids bandwagon soon enough. Until then, I can only say that quality-wise, there’s no reason to think that clone hybrids won’t be on par at the very least with clone manufacturers’ woods offerings.

Wedges. Clone wedges aren’t in my bag (I carry Titleist Vokeys I received as gifts), but I have used them, the classic Cleveland-styled models in particular. The clones are very good clubs and incredible values; I have absolutely no reservations recommending them as worth trying out.

Putters. I like to frequently switch and rotate my money sticks around – some days, for example, I inexplicably putt better with a 343 shaft instead of a 333, and vice-versa; or some days a mallet just feels better than a traditional blade; and so on – and clone club companies like Pinemeadow Golf allow me to assemble quite an arsenal of putters to let me do that. I wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford such a “quiver of putters” (as my friends call it) with the prices the brand names are asking for nowadays. Of course, you obviously don’t have to assemble this kind of putter collection; the point is, the clone putters are good and cheap and definitely worth your while to test.

Read on and learn a lot more about what I experienced specifically, particularly in the area of realizing the importance of choosing the right company to purchase clones from because, quite frankly boys and girls, sh*t happens sometimes.

Where it All StartedI’m literally going back to the very beginning, when I picked up the game just a few short years ago. As a beginner, I wanted to learn while using a better set than the typical department store variety. But man, paying the big bucks for those Callaways, Pings, or Titleists I fancied just didn’t make a heck of a lot of sense then, not when it still wasn’t clear whether I was going to stick with the game or not.

So, after doing a bit of research and clicking around online, I went with a set of Acer Sole undercut irons from Pinemeadow Golf. Why? Looks. They looked similar to the original and very expensive Callaway Hawkeyes. And – and this is important, to me anyway – the Acers themselves looked spiffy, presentable, and respectable, something that I wouldn’t be ashamed to be seen using, unlike many of the hokey clubs with the cheesy cosmetics I see offered by other clone builders. (To this day, Pinemeadow’s selection is up there among the best in the field in the looks department.)

While I was at it, I also picked up the 3-club set of Acer XDS 2+ Stainless Woods (Callaway Hawkeye VFT clones), which included a 10º driver, 3-Wood and 5-Wood, and the Pure Roll Series M-1 putter (a Never Compromise mallet clone). Standard Pinemeadow Aldila graphite shafts (steel for the putter) and grips for the lot. I was a beginner, remember, and knew next to nothing about everything, so I figured, play it basic, safe, and cheap. If I ended up not liking the sport, at least I wouldn’t be out all that much.

Same Quality? Problems?

Needless to say, I’m now hooked on the game, and I’m doing what I can to try and bring that handicap down to as low a number as I can muster. I’ve also gotten involved in a number of golf-related business activities, like selling golf equipment on eBay.

Which means at least two things: I now not only know enough about the game to be able to competently judge my clone clubs performance-wise, I also get to regularly play and test out a lot of expensive brand name equipment so that I can actually do decent and fair comparisons.

The fact that my Pinemeadow irons are still in my golf bag as I write this should tell you a lot. It’s not that I don’t like playing with brand name irons – I do. In fact, I own a set of Clevelands and a set of TaylorMades for no other reason than that I like playing with them occasionally (I don’t like all Clevelands and TaylorMades, mind you, just the specific models I’ve kept).

Thing is, I don’t play any better or worse with the Clevelands and TaylorMades than I do with the Pinemeadows. Same thing goes with Callaways, Titleists, Hogans, Mizunos, or any other brand name equipment out there. My game pretty much plays out the way it should at my level regardless of what set of clubs I use.

Obvious conclusion: It’s me, not the clubs.

So, considering that I’m satisfied with the way the clones look, feel, and perform, why in the world would I want to bother with brand name clubs that cost up to 8X as much (or even more!) but don’t offer me any additional game benefits over the clones?

Even if we could say that there’s a slight incremental advantage or benefit to using a brand name set over the clones, we would then have to ask: Would it be worth the extra cost? Yeah, I like keeping an eye on the good old cost:benefit ratio, and based solely on what I’ve experienced, for players at my level (mid-handicapper) or higher, these incremental benefits do not exist.

How about for better players? Do low handicappers and scratch players realize any benefits to playing with the brands versus inexpensive clone equipment? I’m not good enough to know. But judging from the feedback posted on Pinemeadow’s site, it looks like more than just a few low handicappers/scratch players have “discovered” the benefits of going clone.

Do note, however, that I’ve also experienced a few problems with the stuff I got from Pinemeadow:

” Not long after I received my irons and woods, a few plastic ferrules popped loose. Nothing serious, easily fixed by pinprick drops of superglue. But…

” Within only a few months, the plastic ferrule on my 5-Iron not only popped loose, but broke off completely. The thing just split open. Then, within a few more days, so did the ferrules on the 3- and 7-Irons (back then, I tended to play the odd numbers more often).

Although I probably could have put them back on with more superglue, I figured that this was now in the realm of the strange, and I wasn’t too happy about it. So I emailed Pinemeadow immediately. They quickly had me ship the whole lot back at their expense, even the clubs with the ferrules still intact. They said they’d fix the clubs, which they did. I think, however, that they eventually shipped back brand new replacement clubs instead of going through the time and trouble of disassembling and reassembling each of my original clubs just to fix some ferrules. Those clubs I got back sure looked new, shrink wrapped heads and all. I can’t obviously say that this is what they do in every situation; I’m just relating exactly what kind of “service” I got.

That was a couple or so years ago. The set has been trouble-free since.

” After a round about a year after purchase, I noticed something new on the Acer XDS 2+ driver head: a very distinct dimple about a quarter of an inch or so in diameter on the toe. Must’ve happened on the 3rd, I thought, when I skied a drive. It apparently didn’t affect the club’s performance the rest of the round since it went unnoticed. My fault and not a Pinemeadow quality problem, I concluded.

But I did mention it in an email to Pinemeadow. I wanted to know whether this was common. I was told two things: (a) this was uncommon, and (b) I still had some time left under my original 1 year warranty, a benefit that had completely slipped my mind – only two days left, in fact – so I could send the club back to be replaced! Again, this replacement was made without it costing me a penny out-of-pocket, shipping and all! Now that was a pleasant surprise.

” That I like Pinemeadow Golf’s service and support is an understatement. But I hated their standard grips; they felt cheap to me, and the fact that they wore out and needed replacement very quickly – darned if I got a full season of very casual play out of those grips – reinforced that conclusion.

I wasn’t alone with this grip observation. You used to be able to find lots of negative customer feedback on Pinemeadow’s site about those grips. I don’t see the complaints anymore, and I hope that’s because Pinemeadow’s started using much better standard grips.

Even then, I say splurge a little and have Pinemeadow install one of the better brand name grip upgrade options they offer. The benefits far outweigh the negligible expense of going this route.

Recommendations

It should be plainly obvious that I highly recommend Pinemeadow Golf. Excellent products and prices, and even better, absolutely excellent service.

Another place to try is GigaGolf. I don’t own a set from them, but have played with a friend’s and was equally impressed with the quality of their work and low prices… no hesitation at all in recommending them to you to try out.

There are many other sources of clone golf clubs out there. Since I haven’t used them, I can’t really say yay or nay. I do share any new golf equipment finds and discoveries on my HumanGolf and Golfdirt sites, if you’re interested in exploring further. But…

REMEMBER: Regardless of who you choose to purchase from, make sure you deal with a quality-conscious and reputable company, specifically one that provides full product warranties and an excellent money back guarantee. If you can’t find this kind of consumer information on their website, ask them about it before you purchase.

To Do Right Now

Visit a highly regarded clone manufacturer like Pinemeadow or GigaGolf and pick up a club or two – or even a full set of irons and woods – to try out. You’ll probably be very surprised at how low it’ll cost to get a set of quality clubs custom fit to your needs and specifications.

Thanks.
